It should contain not necessarily in this order : 1 a statement of hypotheses or research questions; 2 an outline of methods or procedures that will address the hypotheses or research questions; 3 an argument for the significance of the proposed research; 4 a preliminary list of sources; and 5 a short outline of the proposed thesis.

The thesis should demonstrate the student's ability to apply knowledge and skills gained from the anthropology department's curriculum. A desirable goal for an excellent thesis would be a work of sufficient rigor and quality that it could be considered for publication.
The Anthropology Honors Thesis program provides outstanding seniors the opportunity to conduct original scholarly research under the mentorship of an anthropology faculty member, to write an honors thesis, and ultimately to graduate with departmental honors. It is a yearlong program that may begin in either fall or spring semester of the senior year, usually beginning in the fall semester of senior year. Although there is no specific length requirement, a typical undergraduate Honors Thesis contains pages of text, along with a bibliography, and often includes illustrations and tables. To get a sense of what is expected, take a look at undergraduate theses on file in the Anthropology Library Pathfinder Quick Search.
This revision does not alter the restriction that a DDRIG proposal may only be re-submitted once, unless a waiver for a third submission has been granted by a Cultural Anthropology Program Officer. This revision expands the explanation of NSF's mandate to fund primarily basic research rather than applied research, ethnographic work with primarily humanistic objectives, or non-generalizable data collection on a particular ethnographic site. It further specifies that because program priorities are focused on funding theory-testing basic science, the program discourages projects that return students to a previous site of employment or volunteer work unless there is a strong justification for the scientific merits of that particular site. This revision provides further detail related to the requirement that the Project Description include an explanation of what necessary training has been obtained prior to the submission of the proposal. The revision includes additional guidelines related to the inclusion of a well-developed data analysis plan in the Project Description.
