Getting water on Mars will be a challenging task. However, in the North Pole of Mars, there is a mix between ice and dry ice co2. Scientists discovered this on a simple mission when they sent the spacecraft Phoenix to the north pole where it took some simple scientific experiments. It simply dug a small hole over some of the ice. The ice evaporated over a couple days proving that it is water as the carbon would be able to last longer.
Firstly, the author claims that because of the many technological advances due to the "Space Race", a commitment to a manned mission to Mars will produce similar results. Although there are many similarities between committing to sending a man to the moon and to sending a man to mars, it false for the author to assume that there will be similar technological and humanitarian advances. The 's is a very different time period from today and as a result, it is unknown whether a manned mission to Mars will prove to be a worthy investment.
